What separates distance learners who thrive from those who stall? EIU's learning-analytics team reviewed three years of platform data across 12,000 learners and found three habits that correlate most strongly with on-time completion. First, the 90-minute rule: learners who block at least 90 minutes of study on at least four days a week complete units 2.4× faster than sporadic studiers. Second, community participation: posting at least once weekly in class discussions or the WhatsApp group raises pass rates by 19 percentage points. Third, using drip schedules: learners who follow the platform's drip-released pacing — rather than bingeing before deadlines — report half the anxiety and better exam performance.
The university has folded these findings into its new learner onboarding, which now includes a study-plan generator, a live "meet your mentor" session and progress nudges tuned to each learner's rhythm.
"Success at a distance is engineered, not hoped for," says Dr. Meron Haile, Dean of Education. "Our job is to build the scaffolding."
